Each year in August, Tumbler Ridge's Wolverine Nordic & Mountain Society hosts one of the most, literally, breath-taking half-marathons. Many runners describe the wind taking their breath away as they climb the race trail.
Originally, the race route brought runners up the Roman Mountain, hence the race name "Emperor's Challenge", as well as a long-standing tradition held on registration night the Friday before the race. Volunteers, frequently members of TRCAC, dress in togas and serve platters of grapes to race registrants as they arrive to pick up their racing packages.
This year, the 26th race registration night, was no different. Several TRCAC members and friends donned togas and various accessories, hoisted platters laden with grapes and worked the registration room at the Tumbler Ridge Community Centre.
