Each year in August for the last 25 years, runners and aspiring marathoners gather together and run a half-marathon right here in the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Geopark. The route up Babcock Mountain is a total distance of 20.3 km, with the summit at 10.5 km. The total elevation gain is 2637 feet (804 m). A kids race is also available, with 2 km and 4 km distances, with some elevation gain (80 ft/25m and 340 ft/103m).

For many years, TRCAC has proudly supported the Emperor's Challenge during registration night. Volunteers dress up in togas, with platters of grapes in hand, serving racers as they pick up their registration packages ahead of the big marathon.

This year, marking the 25th Anniversary of the Emperor's Challenge, the Tumbler Ridge Fairgrounds will be hosting the Emperor's Village on race day, August 9, 2025. Live entertainment, free shuttle, awards ceremony, beer garden and more! The Village opens at 1 pm, admission by donation.
